It was the summer of 2013 and we were sitting on the deck of our house in Westfield, Massachusetts. I was in the midst of making brownies with the kids by the fire and a little too excited. Then, it happened.
I can’t remember who it was, but someone dropped a cake onto the deck. I picked it up and saw that it was an 8-inch cake. I assumed that meant it was 7 inches because that was the maximum size of the cake that was made that year. I was wrong. The cake was made to be 8 inches.
That was, of course, the icing. And it was completely normal. This is why I love cakes. It’s because you can make something so unusual and weird that it becomes normal. Even the most mundane things can become beautiful. A cake with icing that’s just a little bit too small is still beautiful.
The other part of cake-making that I just really love is the icing. In this case, the icing was a little bit too small.
To be fair, I’m not trying to be nice here. Cake is actually quite a hard thing to make and I do want to do it well. But there’s nothing to be done about the icing, so I just have to settle for the cake itself. I’m not sure if I’m a little bit jealous though.
I guess the point of this is that cake-making is actually very hard. In fact, it can be, but sometimes it’s fun. Last night I made a cake for the first of the year which was, overall, really good. And you know what? Its very good, because I used a recipe that I have been collecting for years. It turned out really good, it was a simple recipe with a few tweaks, and it was so easy to make.
I never thought I’d see something like this, but I’m very happy with my cake. I used a recipe I found on the internet, and the cake itself was made with the same ingredients, only the frosting was a bit stronger. The cake itself was a really good dark chocolate square. It took more than 6 hours to make, and it was pretty good.
All I can say is that if you are looking for a cake that’s good enough to eat, you should definitely try this recipe.
