It’s an interesting number to look at because it is a very simple number, but it also has a very complex meaning because of the CO2 it represents. CO2 is a greenhouse gas, and a lot of people are trying to figure out how to reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.
I don’t think there is any way to reduce it, other than reducing emissions. Its really a simple calculation of how much carbon dioxide is in the atmosphere. What happens is that when you take the amount of a gas, such as CO2, and divide it by the surface area of the Earth, it becomes a simple number. Since we have a lot of CO2 in the atmosphere, as of the beginning of this year, it is a very small number.
In the end the number of CO2 in the atmosphere is a really tiny fraction of the total amount it takes up, so the CO2 is just a very insignificant part of the total amount. One way to view it is that the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is just like the amount of air you breath in your lungs.
