I find a lot of people don’t take care of themselves as well when they’re working from home because there’s no one physically demanding them to do so (or maybe it’s something related to not having any coworkers in sight). The problem with this is that once you start feeling run down, your productivity and even mood will be affected – remember what we talked about at the beginning? Taking some time for yourself now can save you more stress later on! Remember how important taking care of yourself can be if work has been busy or stressful lately too; by spending time doing things like cooking good meals, going to the gym or just reading a book for leisure our mental health and even productivity will improve.
Tip #07: GET OUT OF THE HOUSE AND INTO A CONFERENCE ROOM. If you’re working from home and there’s no one else in sight, it can be easy to feel isolated – this is especially true if you don’t have any coworkers that work remotely either (I’ve had plenty of friends tell me they miss having other people around). It seems like such an obvious thing but actually getting out of your house every once in awhile really does help make things seem less lonely/isolated; I know tons of remote workers who get together with their coworker at co-working spaces on a regular basis too!
Tip #08: SET UP A “ME” TIME SCHEDULE. When you’re in your own home, it’s easy to get lost and not leave the house for days at a time if things are going well – but this can be really bad! So, set up some kind of schedule where you have specific times that are designated as “me” time; even just an hour or so might do wonders for how productive/motivated we feel while working from home.
Tip #09: GET OUT OF YOUR OWN HEADSPACE IN GENERAL. It’s important to remember that when you work from home, there isn’t anyone else around – maybe not physically anyway (but I’m sure emotionally). This means that
– Be ready for distractions. You don’t have to be in an office with a door shutting out the outside world, but if you’re at home and you’ve got your personal life going on around you while trying to work, then it might take some time before you get used to that environment and can focus again.
– Consider investing in noise canceling headphones! This way when people are coming up from behind (or even down the hallway) they won’t distract or annoy you as much because the sound will just die off instead of rumbling into your ears like it normally would without these great devices.
– Put yourself in a zone: Try doing yoga every morning; listen to something soothing as background music during the day; or take a walk around the block with your dog after lunch.
